Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve is situated on the northern edge of Burgess Hill and access to it is from the playing fields next to Burgess Hill Town Football Club (off Maple Drive) and from Coopers Close.  Other entry points are from a footpath near Valebridge Close (take great care when crossing the railway line) and from beneath the viaduct in Valebridge Road.  It is owned by Mid Sussex District Council and we, The Friends Group, help maintain it.

The Reserve is a beautiful oasis of calm consisting of ancient meadows, woodland, hedgerows and ponds, covering 80 acres.  During the past couple of years we have been surveying the wildlife and keeping records of all the flora and fauna in preparation for publishing a book entitled ‘The Bedelands Story’.  This will also include the history of the farm.

Our membership is growing and in May 2006 it was 222 households.  Anyone who has an interest in the countryside is welcome to become a member and for the princely sum of £2 per year per household (plus a voluntary donation if desired).  Members receive a quarterly Newsletter which details all our activities and news.  We have guided walks on the Reserve (led by experts), outings to local places of interest, illustrated talks and Conservation Workparties which take place on the first Saturday & Sunday of the month (except August).
